Covid – 19 , we are together

We are always grateful to be in a position where we can offer help to those who need it, especially right now in this critical situation. Since 2016, we have worked faithfully together with our local contacts in Kawangware. Through regular visits we see the developments on-site. However due to the situation that arose with the pandemic we have shifted our efforts towards distributing Food Items, Meals, Masks, Sanitizers and Gloves to the unfortunate families in slum areas.

In Kawangware and other slums across Kenya, communities are taking matters into their own hands because when a community comes together, even in the most fearful times, there is hope. In this way, we have supported 110 families over a span of 3 years in Kawangware and Dagoretti slum areas, therefore our communities are well-known to us, and we understand their needs. We are determined to carry on with this journey and you can join us! Click here to help us keep our journey rolling.

Our support package include necessities like: Rice, Unga for Chapati, Unga for Ugali, Uji Flour, Oil, Sugar, Soap , Bread, Milk, Masks. The preparation and packaging are done in our center. We have taken the following Covid measures to ensure the safety of our volunteers and the homes we visit:

  • Distribution will be done in small groups, and on daily basis.
  • Manageable groups of 20-30 families per day, not to make any sort of gathering.
  • We have door to door drop-offs and also collection from specific centers (to speed up delivery; which will be still done with specific timing and limited numbers)
  • We do this, in solo mode without prior notice/arrangements to avoid any sort of public pressure or tense/gathering.
  • Families will be identified a day in advance and packages will be delivered to head of family.

Additionally, we are running door-to-door campaigns to raise awareness and at the same time distributing bleach, homemade soap, hand sanitizers and masks. We have plans to set up hand washing stations at every entry point to the slum as soon as we are able to.

From Kawangware, we hope the world learns that we are capable of keeping ourselves safe, clean  and protected. Community-led efforts must be allowed to start and to lead the way.

Every contribution, however big or small, is so valuable. If you are able to donate you may do so by clicking this link.
