Kenya2Kruger
Green Africa Global Foundation is supporting “Kenya2Kruger” initiative.
Kayla and Chris are cycling Kenya to Kruger Park in South Africa in support of raising rhino poaching awareness.
Rhinos are environmentally crucial. Rhinos make an impact on their environment, which means that if the Rhinos disappear, then certain plant communities may be changed, threatening other species in the process. Protecting rhinos helps to protect other species, such as elephants, buffaloes, and other animals.
According to the report of Fair Planet Looking at the numbers, there is no reason for optimism. According to recent estimates, no more than 30,000 rhinos are left on earth, including about 20,000 white rhinos and 5,250 black rhinos in Africa, as well as about 3,500 Indian rhinos and no more than 100 Javan and Sumatran rhinos in Indonesia respectively.
What can we do to save Rhinos?Improve security monitoring to protect rhinos from poaching. Improve local and international law enforcement to stop the flow of rhino horn and other illegal wildlife trade items from Africa to other regions of the world.
As part of this initiative they are planning on visiting schools along the way and doing a Rhino Art lesson where they will teach primary school children, aged 10 and up, about what rhino poaching is and why saving our rhinos are important. They will then give them a sheet of a rhino to color in so they will leave the picture with the students as well as a plaque that they would like to give the school as a token of appreciation for having them.
In this way they are planning to visit the schools in slum areas as well. More information and reports will publish soon.
